we will be talking about the Brass tacks of agriculture
Nigeria
gained her independence on the 1st
of October 1960 and that day marked the beginning of agriculture in Nigeria,
and ever since our independence, so many historical things has taken place
which many of us have little or no knowledge of . Agroeat brings some of these
important fact into limelight.

According to statistics, the world’s highest producer of cassava
is Nigeria.
2.
Did you know? Nigeria has 84 million hectares of fertile land.
3.
The agricultural sector in Nigeria employs 70% of the nation’s
working population.
4.
Nigeria is the second largest producer of tomatoes in Africa and
13th largest producer in the world.
5.
The Cocoa House in Ibadan was once the tallest building in
tropical Africa. It was formerly known as “Ile Awon Agbe” which
translates to “House of Farmers.”
6.
Nigerian family farmers sell only 26% of their agricultural
products, while they consume whatever is left.
7. Did you know? Only 16%
of Nigerian small family farms have access to motorized equipment.
8.
Nigerian staple food crops include cassava, yams, corn,
coco-yams, cowpeas, beans, sweet potatoes, millet, bananas, rice, fruits, and
vegetables.

According to statistics,
Nigeria is currently the highest producer of rice in Africa
10. The minister of
Agriculture is Mr Sabo Nanono.
We have a rich history
and enough resources to make Nigeria a power-house in agriculture but this has
not been the case since we have been struggling to get the right policies and infrastructure
to encourage farmers do more to increase their productivity.
